Bought this bottle about a month ago and used it everywhere I went - the gym, office, etc. Had no complaints about it (it's a water bottle) and am/was looking to get rid of all the plastic utensils, bottles and containers I use. This fit the bill fine and really, the 40z is perfect for the gym too.However, the plastic cap became disconnected while twisting the cap on - the cap itself is metal but the plastic top is cheap plastic and seems to be attached solely by a rivet in the metal and 'snaps' on. Well sorry, to get the bottle to close FULLY (aka no leaks) you have to twist the sucker pretty hard, which at first I appreciated thinking it spoke to the sturdiness of a steel water bottle. But nope, the plastic popped right off and now can't pop back in without doing it over and over, basically I have a bottle but no lid.Have seen a few other reviews about this as well so wish I would have seen them before buying - go elsewhere for a steel bottle if you want a cap to it.

I bought this item with high expectations. I'm a big guy, and I drink lots of fluids during the day. I bought this in hopes of replacing my habit of drinking big soft drinks with water.For two weeks, this worked well. Then, lo and behold, one of the bottles sprung a leak around the cap. Thinking the cap was the offending part, I purchased a new one. After receiving it, I tried again and the water leaked WORSE!On closer inspection, it seems that the metal opening itself had bent, and the cap was no longer able to seat properly, ensuring a good seal. So, now, unless I plan on keeping the bottle absolutely upright for the entire day, the bottle is worthless.I cannot recommend this for purchase to anyone. As a matter of fact, I'd rather have spent my money on a different brand.

This is an excellent little canteen. It's made from high quality stainless steel so it's resistant to corrosion and great at keeping your drink cool. The cap is also stainless steel covered with a plastic bit for strapping a carabiner or sting to.Another advantage of the stainless steel is that it is BPA free, a chemical that is involved in the production of certain plastics such as polycarbonate bottles like Nalgene. A disadvantage of the stainless steel is that it scratches and dents more easily. It can also crack under really intense pressure, whereas the polycarbonate bottles can be run over by a car and still not breach. However, I don't think I'll be seeing that kind of damage to my canteen ever.I also like the taste of water from a stainless container. I don't know if that's purely psychological or not, but I suppose it's the difference from drinking beer from a can or a bottle.

THE GOOD: Stainless steel means you don't have to worry about toxins leaching into your water. Convenient intermediate size means that you have enough water to last you between refills. The seal seems to work well and I've never had any problems with it leaking. Very lightweight. In a pinch it could be used to boil water just as long as you're careful not to get the fire so hot that you melt it.THE BAD: It'll acquire minor dents and scratches in a hurry. But who cares? Every experienced backpacker has dented and dinged equipment.THE UGLY: This bottle is made of thin stainless steel and that's it! No insulation means that as soon as the sun hits it your water will be hot. I'd recommend putting a sock around it when hiking to act as an insulator.Overall I'd say it's an excellent and functional product for the health-conscious boy scout, hiker, backpacker, or outdoors-person. If you're looking for something pretty, try a sigg instead.

The plastic top is the weak point without a doubt. The plastic top and the threaded metal insert that screws into the bottle is joined by a fragile press fit that is prone to failure. Mine broke off the first time it dropped off the truck seat on to the floor. I'm going to try and glue them together with some superglue. Even if that works I can tell the plastic cap isn't very strong and I won't be suprised if it breaks sometime in the future.

As I am sure you've read already, the top piece of plastic comes of in a month or two. No big deal you say, just call in your warranty you say. As it is so convenient, there is no mention of warranty. No big deal I'll just as the manufacturer. What 30 day's on an all steel bottle. You must be kidding? Oh I can just buy a whole new cap to last me a whole month. Thanks for the kind offer, let's see if I can buy another one at the store and have them return this garbage to the manufacturer.

This is a really nice water bottle.Let me dismiss a few rumors that I read on the review of this bottle.There is no weird taste that comes from the stainless steal. Just follow the instructions and fill the water bottle with distilled white vinegar and water solution, I did a one to one solution. Fill the bottle all the way up, screw on the cap (yes some liquid will pour our) wait 30 minutes or so, empty the bottle and rinse with water.The screw on lid is steel on steel. I did not notice any unusual sound or loud ness when i screwed the lid on or off.A nice option would be to have some sort of insulated blanket to put the bottle in.

I woke up one day thinking, why do I keep buying water at the gym for $2 and then refilling the bottles, which your not supposed to do anyway. So I looked around and found this beauty. Just over a liter and it goes a long way before refill. Sturdy construction, nice little nylon carry sling and the cap on the inside is stainless with plastic outside. I read other reviews where people complained that it dents easily, which I yet to have a dent in this bottle and I'm pretty clutsy by nature. That said, I don't care if it dings or dents, its a water bottle for petes sake, not a faberge egg. No complaints, exactly what I needed at a resonable price.
